Balance or lack thereof

One of my goals is to improve my balance. Sounds easy enough. Stand on one foot- alternate.repeat.

Well crap, I could do it for maybe 10 seconds.

How can I improve it? How long does it take?

Help!
Besides looking like a flamingo, I have no idea.

This is bringing to the surface alot of my childhood inabilities and IT SUCKS!! Geesh!
